We are an LRC FIRST LEGO League team called “Protocol 9” formed in June 2012. Initially 6 creative boys gathered together in 2012, then 2 more intelligent and energetic boys joined in 2013, all with a common goal – build a best robot to serve the world.
Our rocky team members ranges from 4th to 8th grade in 2013 to take on the “Nature’s Fury” challenge this season.

Ben Frankstein: Currently a 5th grader from Riker Hill School of Livingston, NJ. An excellent builder, team’s robot launcher and operator. He was the hero of the team to have operated the robot together with team mate Isaac on 2012 FLL State Qualify meeting in Liberty Science Center site where the team won “Best Robot Performance” Award!
Ben Ma: Currently a 5th grader from Collins School of Livingston, NJ. New and valuable addition to the team in 2013. He is a great swimming athlete, will do the same good or better in his FLL robotics team.
Gabriel Yecko: Currently a 5th grader from Hillside School of Livingston, NJ. A great team player, he was the inventor and prototype builder of the team’s 2012 project solution of P9 Grabber.
Howard Hua: Currently a 5th grader from Hillside School of Livingston, NJ. The second youngest of the team, yet the most “senior” of the team, he was the original designer of team’s 2012 FLL contest robot, a lead and great contributor to the team.
Isaac Im: Currently a 7th grader from Chatham Middle School, NJ; being the most diligent member of the team, he is always well prepared before each meeting, well document all his creative ideas, work super diligent, team’s “chief software engineer”. He was the hero of the team to have operated the robot together with team mate Ben Frankstein on 2012 FLL State Qualify meeting in Liberty Science Center site where the team won “Best Robot Performance” Award!
Karl Stolze: Currently a 3rd grader from Harrison School of Livingston, NJ. He is the youngest of the team with amazing programming skills beyond his age, co-inventor of our 2012 project solution of P9 Grabber, and key authors of research presentation.
Nick Wang: Currently a 5th grader from Hillside School of Livingston, NJ. new and valuable addition to the team in 2013; super energetic and full of creative ideas in his brain.
Terrence Shi: Currently an 8th grader from Millburn Middle School, NJ. Key author of 2012 research project and acts as leader’s role in our core values, expected to have the same or greater contribution for the 2013 challenge!
Protocol 9 Team won #1 Robot Performance on 2012 FLL NJ State Qualify Tournament at Liberty Science Center, Dec 1st, 2012
Team’s robot performance scored 300, ranked #1 among 12 FLL teams in Liberty Science Center, NJ on Dec 1st, 2012. Our robot completed 10 missions within 2.5 minutes.
During the judges interview, boys actively presented their research project and our solution, demonstrated our solution prototype, the gentleman judge was especially impressed by our team logo which can be scanned to bring up our team website!
Isaac and Ben are the heroes of the team on FLL State Qualify Tournament, without their excellent robot launch and operations, we cannot make our top 1 performance rank!
