Team A.I.R.

Team A.I.R. of Livingston Robotics Club. We invented the Artificial Intelligence Recycler (A.I.R). AIR is an automated recycling machine, the size of a typical trash bin seen in food courts. The machine allows users to put combined trash and recyclables together to eliminate confusion of how to properly recycle. We wrote an application that uses computer vision on Raspberry Pi system to identify objects in the combined trash. The system communicated to a server written in Python to perform classification, thus, allowing the A.I.R. system to identify plastic bottles out of the trash. We also built a robotics arm with motors and LEGO parts to move the identified bottles into a separate bin. There is a component of Arduino to detect bottles in order to operate the bottle puncture component. This is the future of the automated trash bin in public places.
