The LRC Jr.FLL Expo (co-hosted by Spongebot and Exit 5A Robotics) was held on May 21, 2016. The theme for the season was about waste management. There were 30 teams from 13 towns in 8 counties: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex , Morris, Somerset, Sussex and Union.

The participants enjoyed the following activities:

• Team A.I.R. (team name of Spongebot for this year) made the public debut of the Artificial Intelligence Recycler (A.I.R.) machine ahead of the FLL Global Innovation Award in June held at the headquarters of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Blue Diamond Disposal brought their latest garbage truck with automatic side loader. All Jr.FLL participants got a chance to operate the truck’s robotic arm to lift a trash bin onto the truck.
• Jr. FLL teams (ages 6-9) presenting their “Waste Wise” projects and LEGO models that incorporate motors and computer programming.
• FIRST LEGO League (FLL) robot demonstration of the “Trash Trek” missions by Exit 5A Robotics
• VEX Robotics Competition robot demonstration by Exit 5 Robotics
• Family friendly activities including a petting zoo, art & craft, face painters, a giant blow-up obstacle course and slides, adopt-a-pet, and a chalk walk, food and music among others.
