Past Expos

Livingston Robotics Club (LRC) hosted our first Junior FIRST LEGO League Expo (Jr.FLL Expo, formerly known as JFLL Expo) in Livingston, New Jersey in May 2010 to celebrate the end of the season and get children excited about the next season. It was a great success with participants and spectators from Bergen, Essex, and Union counties. We plan to continue this every year as our tradition for the Jr.FLL outreach program.

Our Philosophy

Many Jr.FLL Expos throughout the U.S. are held as part of the FLL tournaments. We take a different approach in organizing our Expo. Our focus is on Jr.FLL teams. The activities are selected and the exhibitions are customized to attract interest of 6-to-9 year old children in an outdoor setting. In addition to the main Jr.FLL event for the teams to showcase their work, we coordinate with universities and other organizations to add hands-on exhibitions and enrichment activities for Jr.FLL participants and other children to learn about robotics and the topics related to the Challenge theme.

The past exhibitors were Princeton University, University of Waterloo (Canada), NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, BioBus, St. Barnabas Medical Center, FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge teams. The event also has fun for everyone including the siblings of the participants. Our Expo is part of the Family Festival Day at the Oval, the free outdoor fun for kids. There are many outdoor activities such as inflatable rides, obstacle courses, pony rides, performance for children, arts and crafts from 10AM to 3PM.

We also coordinate to have an additional activity after the Expo. Although this is not a guarantee to have in every year, but we are trying out best to have the free post-Expo event for our participants.  See the Past Expos links in the above to see some of our post-Expo events.
