FLL to FTC Workshop, 7/28/12

For those who are interested in the next step when your team members age-out of FIRST LEGO League (FLL), or to find out how to start a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team, we have a special workshop for you.

Landroids is hosting a “FLL to FTC Workshop” on Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 10 AM to 3 PM, held at Livingston Senior Community Center (204 Hillside Ave., Livingston, NJ 07039).

This year, FIRST is offering three “Graduation Grants” to help FLL teams who are ready to transition into FIRST Tech Challenge.  If your team is ready to move on or to add an FTC team to your program, this is the year to do it!  These grants includes:

• $275 to pay for the FTC registration fee
• An additional $300 toward the FTC kit costs
• $50 per transitioning FLL member, up to $300.

In addition, this workshop is a great opportunity to learn about FTC from veteran FLL teams who have successful transitioned to the high school level. Topics covered include the differences in managing the team, the nature of the competitions and the robots. There will be plenty of time to hear from FTC veterans, to ask questions, mingle and even drive FTC robots.

The workshop will starts at 10 am with a General Overview of FTC, then 3 break-out sessions are available on different topics:
(a) Team Transition
(b) Field, Kit, and Programming
(c ) Fundraising, Help and Other
An FTC Field will be available for use, along with Tetrix robots that your team members can drive. Bring your interested key team members to drive FTC bots!

You can even influence some of the content of the Outreach by taking the quick survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QWVT6FD.

We hope that you take advantage of this opportunity. Even if your FLL team is not yet aging out, or just want to plan ahead for your teens, it is worthwhile to learn about what’s next in FIRST.
