Five Livingston Robotics Club teams were at the Nov. 13, 2011 FIRST LEGO League “Food Factor” practice tournament in Metuchen, NJ.
FTC team Landroids #4220 and its sister FLL team Landrias #4282 served as the referees for 29 registered FLL teams. To prepare for this event, both teams had to spend days to study the robot rules and game updates, as well as going through a 125 questions quiz on the game rules.
Since this is only a robot performance practice event, most attending teams were rookies. When not at the FLL tournament tables checking the robot missions, Landroids and Landrias were helping various FLL teams to debug their programs, give some robot construction tips, and things to watch out for regarding the robot rules.
Meanwhile, LRC also had three FLL teams, Exit 5 Robotics, Technomes and Power Legends, actively running their robots during some of the 40 matches in order to test out their robot design and programming. Most importantly, this is a dress rehearsal to get familiar with what to do during the robot performance competition and rules to know and observe. This event served as the prelude to the upcoming FLL qualifiers, which will start on November 19, 2011 throughout NJ. Good luck, teams!
