This is the largest outdoor Jr. FLL Expo in the area to celebrate the end of the “Body Forward” Jr.FLL season and enjoy some family fun for the young children. The Expo will be inside a tent, take place in conjunction with the Family Festival Day for the Livingston Youth Appreciation Week.
This year, the LRC Jr. FLL Expo is proudly sponsored by the St. Barnabas Medical Center. We will have real doctors from the medical robotics surgery team as the Jr. FLL “Body Forward” Reviewers!! How exciting could that be?! Come on teams, let’s impress them!
In addition, Livingston Robotics Club will once again, incorporate additional “Body Forward” enrichment activities and robotics related exhibitions for the Jr. FLL participants and all visitors:
- BioBus with hands-on experiments using microscopes and demonstration of micro- and nano-bots (11 AM to 1:45 PM open for public. 1:45 PM to 3 PM for Jr. FLL participants. Free admission)
Worms, robots, and the future of medicine! Climb aboard the BioBus, a carbon-neutral microscope lab on wheels, and figure out what these all have in common. We will study how simple organisms, such as the nematode worm C. elegans, use chemical signals to navigate and to find food. Then, with the assistance of professional engineers from the Iridescent Science Studio, we will design a robot that can do the same thing. This is a fun design challenge with important medical implications: doctors and engineers across the world are working to create miniature robots that could be injected into patients and heal
the body. With the ability to use chemical signals, these robots could find and destroy cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone. Board the BioBus to get started!
- Medical robotics presentation from St. Barnabas Medical Center
- FIRST LEGO League “Body Forward” exhibition (team Landrias)
- FIRST Tech Challenge robot exhibition (teams Landroids from LRC and Lancers from Livingston High School)
In addition to the above, our Expo is part of the Family Festival Day, with outdoor fun for young children from 10 AM to 3 PM. The Jr. FLL participants and their friends & families will be able to enjoy free activities such as the inflatable rides, petting zoo, face painting, arts and crafts, games, bike rodeo (bring your bike for a safety check from 1 PM to 4 PM), the classic car and truck show, a multi-cultural performance at 3 PM and more. The evening will conclude with a movie under the stars.
