These two major international level robotics competitions were held in in St. Louis, MO, combined with the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), attended by more than fifty countries around the world.
Six out of 66 NJ teams were selected to compete at the four-day FTC World Championship in St. Louis on April 27-30. After 4 days of intense competition, three Essex County FTC teams unprecedentedly each received an award out of a total of 9 major awards given.
During the FTC World Championship, Landroids has successfully scoring the magnet batons twice during the World Championship, which there was only one other team out of 128 teams were able to do so once. One of the successful magnet baton scoring was from the Landroids and Lancers partnership forming an alliance team to draw on each other’s strength.
Landroids received the Rockwell Collins Innovate Award for their ingenious design of their robot, and was nominated for the Think Award for their Engineering Notebook documentary. The judges were impressed with team’s inventive and complexity use of materials and technology of the robot design to achieve the ultimate game challenge, which was to actively detect the magnet batons employing the electronic sensors, score the magnet batons using a pneumatic claw, and capture the rolling goal with an inflatable loop.
Lancers from Livingston High School received the PTC Design Award for using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to develop a robot design that differentiates itself by incorporating industrial design elements that are both functional and aesthetic.
