Alpha Force
2010 – 11 “Body Forward” Season
FLL Team #3974 – Alpha Force 3.0
A group of friends who like to spend a lot of time together — in the name of playtime, science, learning, the love of Legos, snacks, fun and silliness!
Alpha Force has truly enjoyed participating in the FLL tournaments since 2008. Each year brought in a new set of team members, with only one member and two coaches forging on to the next season. Each year, the team regroups according to the team goals defined by the coaches and the level of competitiveness chosen by each member.
For 2010, this group of friends decided to add 3.0 to their name to distinguish themselves from participants in the previous years. We have 3 boys and 1 girl, from Livingston’s 6th and 2nd grade levels. As always, the team’s primary focus is on having fun and on the learning process while absorbing new knowledge in science, in the world around them, in engineering and in robotics for the young mind.
The emphasis is on helping the children learn as much as they can about the current year’s theme while teaching them basic and useful skills in research, analysis, problem solving, presentation and team work. With most of the meetings in casual playdate format, the children get engaged in the fundamentals of robotics design and in the technical disciplines of programming.
2009-10 “Smart Move” Season
This was Alpha Force’s 2nd FLL seaon with a group of 4th to 6th graders. Only one Livingston 4th grader is an original team member, all other members and even the coaches are FLL rookies. The team consists of two students from Livingston, two from Kearny, and one from Rutherford.
For the Smart Move project, Alpha Force research on ways to keep kids safe while crossing streets and busy roads near schools. They love to build and program their robots together.
The team was thrilled to have won the 1st place in Robot Design and ranked 8th place in robot performance at Hillsborough Qualifier out of 23 teams.
